From Adventure To Advocacy
Loany Carreon Jimenez, class of 2026 (psychology and communication disorders and sciences), didn’t know English when she left Oaxaca, Mexico. Her work with the English Language Development program at Willamette High School led not only to fluency, but to a PathwayOregon scholarship at the UO.
“My experience with the UO so far has been great. I would describe it as an adventure that never ends,” Carreon Jimenez says.
As part of that adventure, Carreon Jimenez serves as a student ambassador and as a Spanish heritage language program leader, assisting other students who grew up in Spanish-speaking homes.
“When we are little, we dream about going to college someday... sometimes while walking around campus I stop and think about how I made it and can’t believe I’m living a college student life.”
