About the Fund

The Charles E. Johnson Memorial Professorship of Accounting was established by Betty and Norman Ruecker in 1987 to foster the education and development of students within the account program at the University of Oregon by bringing preeminent teachers and scholars to the faculty who are held in high esteem by their peers throughout the world of accounting studies. Norman (Norm) Ruecker worked his way through college graduating from the University of Oregon (where he and Betty met) in 1954, with a major in Accounting. Norm was fortunate to have Dr. Charles E. Johnson as an instructor. Norm calls Dr. Johnson, who also served as UO president, the “greatest instructor I ever had in my entire life. His influence on me has been the primary reason for my success as an accountant.” Norm demonstrated his respect for Dr. Johnson by being one of the major contributors to the Charles E. Johnson Memorial Professorship.
