About the Fund
The Barbara and Carlisle Moore Professorship in English was established by Barbara and Carlisle Moore in 1983 to enrich the studies of traditional English and American literature at the University of Oregon.
Carlisle Moore was a specialist in Victorian and modern literature at the University of Oregon, where he taught for 31 years, retiring as Professor Emeritus of English in 1977. In 1942 he married Barbara Kirby. He and his wife endowed the Barbara and Carlisle Moore Distinguished Professorship in English at the UO in 1983. In addition to this benefaction, they gave their home to the university.
