An Indispensable Contributor to a Thriving Economy
The University of Oregon has transformed its community, state, and society since its founding in 1876, enriching the lives of thousands of people.
The economic impact alone is enormous. The direct effect—from spending by employees and students and money from grants, contracts, and federal student aid—was $703 million in fiscal year 2000–2001.
Many UO graduates become leaders in business, law, government, and community organizations, creating new jobs and a better quality of life for thousands. University research produces new products and processes that help existing businesses or lead to new ones.
Private support can foster a strong economy through scholarships, research that helps businesses, and faculty members whose ideas fuel new products or even new industries. |
