UO Students, Faculty Reach Out With Knowledge
Public service has been a hallmark of the university since its founding in 1876. UO students and faculty members have received national recognition for reaching beyond the campus to share knowledge with the community, the state, and the nation.
The services they provide, many of them free or low cost, have made immeasurable contributions. Just a couple of current examples: • The College of Education provides extensive services to people with developmental disabilities, communication disorders, marriage and family problems, and other needs
• Students in the planning, public policy and management program and the College of Arts and Sciences help Oregon communities examine and deal with vital issues related to economic, social, and environmental planning
Private support is crucial to the university’s ability to help solve pressing national problems such as school violence, hunger, homelessness, and economic stagnation.
