The Best Investment You Will Ever Make
Ways to Give
You can give to the University of Oregon through the UO Foundation in any amount, to any university program, and in many different ways. Whether you want to give $1 or $1 million, to give a lump sum or pay over time, the university can carry out your philanthropic wishes. Following are a few examples.
What to Give
• Cash
• Securities (stocks and bonds)
• Real estate (such as your home, vacation home, rental, or commercial property)
• Personal property (such as artwork, rare books, jewelry, furniture, or boats)
• Corporate match (employee gift that may be matched by certain employers)
• Gift-in-kind (a valuable service or usable goods)
• Retirement plan
• Life insurance policy
• Interest in a business
When to Give
• Now
• Annually
• Over several years (through a pledge)
• After your death (through your will)
How to Give
• Make a gift for current use, either unrestricted or for a designated purpose
• Create an endowment, which distributes a percentage of earnings each year to the UO for the gift purpose and reinvests the rest so the fund will continue to grow and support the gift purpose in perpetuity
• Make a gift that pays you income during your life—such as a charitable remainder trust or gift annuity—and benefits the university after your death or a loved one’s death
• Give an asset for a period of time that later reverts to family members (charitable lead trust)
• Make a bequest in your will
A Prudent Investment
The UO Foundation is a strategic partner to the university. The Foundation receives, invests, and distributes funds from private gifts to the university. Through prudent stewardship, the Foundation provides stable financial support for the university today and, at the same time, preserves and enhances the purchasing power of endowment and trust funds to meet future needs of the institution.
UO Foundation investment returns have consistently outperformed market benchmarks and peer institutions, for the past ten years ranking in the top 20 percent of the more than 400 colleges and universities belonging to the National Association of College and University Business Officers. |
