Resident Halls
Better Facilities Will Help Student Recruitment
Through shared activities in the residence halls, students meet new people from different backgrounds who become lifelong friends. They learn to live independently. They learn to make wise choices. And they make lasting ties to the cultural and social life of the UO campus. Students who live in the dorms earn higher grades than those who live off-campus.
The UO has not built a new central-campus residence hall in more than forty years. We are losing our competitive advantage in student recruiting because of our aging facilities. Students increasingly cite the quality of living quarters as a key factor in choice of college. For the same reason, more students who do attend the UO are opting to live off-campus.
New and renovated residence halls will make the UO more competitive in student recruiting, will attract more students to live on campus, and will provide the space and flexibility to embrace new ideas about integrating student social and academic life. |
