On May 11, the theater department threw a party to celebrate its future home and thank the donors who made it possible. “A little song and dance—You gotta have that when you come visit us,” said department head John Schmor. Students donned costumes, performed a musical number, and threw colorful streamers to mark the groundbreaking of the $7.8 million James F. Miller Theatre Complex.

Scheduled for completion in fall 2008, the project will add 18,205 much-needed square feet to historic Villard Hall, including a new studio theater with state-of-the-art lighting and sound, an extended scene shop, and a new green room and costume shop. The new complex will be named for the late Portland businessman and arts patron James F. Miller.

UO theater students donned costumes from past productions to perform a musical number during the groundbreaking ceremony.
