Giustinas Give $2.5 Million for Alumni Center
Gift Sends Project's Fundraising Total Near $9 Million
The Giustinas, a longtime Eugene family with many ties to the University of Oregon, have pledged $2.5 million toward the UO’s new alumni center.
“The Giustina family has invested early and often in their community, their state, and their university through hard work, effective leadership, and thoughtful philanthropy,” UO President Dave Frohnmayer said. “I am delighted that their name will be associated with the alumni center, which will provide a home base for our alumni on campus and a new ‘front door’ for the university.”
Frohnmayer said the Giustina family gift brings the total raised so far to more than $9 million for the $25 million project. Cheryl Ramberg Ford ’66 and her husband, Allyn, of Roseburg earlier contributed $5 million and many other donors have also contributed.
The new center, to be funded entirely through private gifts, will be built on a site along Franklin Boulevard between Agate Street and East Thirteenth Avenue. The site, now occupied by an employee parking lot, is just northwest of the property selected for the university’s new basketball arena. The new alumni center will contain an assembly hall-ballroom with catering facilities, conference and meeting rooms, display areas to recognize university history and alumni accomplishments, and offices for the UO Alumni Association, UO Foundation, and UO Office of Development.
The timeline for construction of the new center will be determined after an architect is selected in June 2007.
