TEN WAYS TO TRANSFORM LIVES
Following are just a few of the many ways you can transform lives by contributing to the University of Oregon.
1 GO GREEN
Architecture students are going green, “learning by doing” technical processes for building performance and energy-efficient design. Help a group of seventeen students travel to San Diego, California, for the American Solar Energy Society’s national meeting in May ($10,000). They will lead workshops, give presentations, and network with top professionals. Contact Cindy Lundeen, (541) 346-0894, clundeen@ uoregon.edu.
2 TRAINING LEADERS
Help coach students in ethics, presentation, writing, and public speaking by supporting the Leadership in Action Practicum, a program that pairs business students with local nonprofits to solve real-world challenges. Become a friend of the Leadership and Communication Center in the Lundquist College of Business ($5,000). Contact Gary Cordova, (541) 346-3401, gcordova@uoregon.edu.
3 BEFRIEND YELOWSTONE
Help geography professors and the UO InfoGraphics Laboratory complete the first comprehensive atlas of Yellowstone National Park. Support design of the atlas, and your name will be listed among the “Friends of Yellowstone” named in the atlas ($1,000). Contact Jane Gary, (541) 346-3951, jgary@cas.uoregon.edu.
4 BRING WRITERS TO CAMPUS
Help bring to campus such well-known writers as Terry Tempest Williams and David James Duncan while honoring the memory of beloved former UO President Robert D. Clark. Make a gift to the Oregon Humanities Center’s Robert D. Clark Lectureship Endowment ($5,000). Contact Julia Heydon, (541) 346-1001, jheydon@uoregon.edu.
5 COMPLETE HISTORY OF HUMANITY
Fill in the blanks for archaeology and anthropology students. Enable UO Libraries to complete its collection of History of Humanity, Volumes I ( Prehistory and the Beginning of Civilization) , II ( From the Third Millenium to the Seventh Century B.C. ), III ( From the Seventh Century B.C. to the Seventh Century A.D. ), and V ( 1492–1789 A.D.) (Total of $580 or $145 per volume). Contact Lisa Manotti, (541) 346-1823, lmanotti@uoregon.edu.
6 SHARPEN YOUR WITS
Support the new WITS (Women in Technology and Science) fund in the UO College of Arts and Sciences to attract and retain the best and brightest female graduate students and faculty members in the sciences. WITS also provides travel funds so graduate students and faculty members can present their research at conferences (a contribution of any amount helps match a $20,000 challenge gift). Contact Sara Mason, (541) 346-0607, saram@cas.uoregon.edu.
7 LITERATURE AT YOUR FINGERTIPS
Help students, faculty members, and scholars find information on authors and their works in all genres and disciplines, from all time periods and all countries. Help UO Libraries purchase Literature Resource Center, the most current, comprehensive, and reliable online literature database ($69,000). Contact Lisa Manotti, (541) 346-1823, lmanotti@uoregon.edu.
8 TWO HEADS BETER THAN ONE
Help Oregon Humanities Center teaching fellows team up with their colleagues to develop exciting new courses. Turn a regular teaching fellowship into a team-teaching fellowship ($4,500). Contact Julia Heydon, (541) 346-1001, jheydon@uoregon.edu.
9 TEACH KALAPUYA HISTOR Y
Help local teachers tell their students about the history of native peoples of the Willamette Valley. Purchase a Kalapuya teaching kit featuring replica artifacts, games, activities, stories, and more for the UO Museum of Natural and Cultural History ($500). Contact Patricia Krier, (541) 346-5089, pkrier@uoregon.edu.
10 MORE KEYS, PLEASE
Help equip the renovated MarAbel B. Frohnmayer Music Building with thirty new pianos badly needed for teaching, practice, and performance ($15,000 for an upright; $80,000 for a Steinway grand). Contact DeNel Stoltz, (541) 346-5687, denel@uoregon.edu.
