Bequests Help Shape University’s Present, Future

David Gant, acting senior director of the UO’s gift planning office, says estate gifts like Miller’s are more important than ever for ensuring the university’s ability to meet the needs of students and society in the future.
He encourages those who already have included the UO in their wills or estate plans to inform his office.
For Miller, the knowledge that her estate is in order provides peace of mind. She’s the exception, however; in the United States, about two-thirds of the population dies without a valid will. State law then determines the distribution of their estates.
“A small amount of simple estate planning can avoid these difficulties,” Gant said.
