MarAbel B. Frohnmayer Music Building
The Vision
- $15.2-million renovation and expansion of the School of Music building.
- Will increase space by 50 percent to better accommodate the 500 music majors and 4,000 non-majors now using a building designed for 300 students.
- Nearly double the number of student practice rooms.
- New acoustically isolated teaching studios.
- New classrooms, offices and space for student music group rehearsals and instrument storage.
- New entrance on 18th Ave.
- Enclose and improve the historic courtyard and outdoor stage on the east side of the building.
Financing
- The Oregon Legislature has approved state bonds for half the building cost, $7.6 million.
- To facilitate a fall bond sale, the School of Music must raise $7.6 million in private gifts by October 2005. To date, including Lorry Lokey's contributions totaling $4 million, $7.1 million has been raised.
Timing
- Expected groundbreaking: August 2006
- Expected completion: Fall 2008
