MarAbel B. Frohnmayer Music Building

The Vision

  • $15.2-million renovation and expansion of the School of Music building.
  • Will increase space by 50 percent to better accommodate the 500 music majors and 4,000 non-majors now using a building designed for 300 students.
  • Nearly double the number of student practice rooms.
  • New acoustically isolated teaching studios.
  • New classrooms, offices and space for student music group rehearsals and instrument storage.
  • New entrance on 18th Ave.
  • Enclose and improve the historic courtyard and outdoor stage on the east side of the building.

Financing

  • The Oregon Legislature has approved state bonds for half the building cost, $7.6 million.
  • To facilitate a fall bond sale, the School of Music must raise $7.6 million in private gifts by October 2005. To date, including Lorry Lokey's contributions totaling $4 million, $7.1 million has been raised.

Timing

  • Expected groundbreaking: August 2006
  • Expected completion: Fall 2008
