Poised for Transformation
As one of only three institutions on the West Coast offering baccalaureate through doctoral degrees in music, and the only institution in Oregon providing baccalaureate and master’s degrees in dance, we take our responsibility to heart. The UO School of Music and Department of Dance have trained musicians and dancers of distinction, fostered the arts in our communities, and prepared music and dance educators since 1886.
We are providing life-changing experiences to thousands of students. They learn, they create, and they perform. Our music and dance majors go on to excel as renowned performers, composers, choreographers, scholars, teachers, administrators, recording artists, directors, and producers.
Research tells us that music and dance help children excel in all subjects, instilling discipline, focus, commitment, and an appreciation for collaboration. But an arts education needs no justification beyond its innate value. Artistic expression and comprehension are fundamental to being an educated person.
Arts education is a responsibility we take seriously. That’s why we’ve launched our most ambitious fundraising effort to date—one that will renew the School of Music and Department of Dance by renovating and expanding our facilities and increasing funding for scholarships and guest artists. Please join us in transforming lives as we bring the arts to our university, our schools, and our communities.
