Universities Are About Ideas…
…and great universities generate ideas that help shape the future.
At the College of Arts and Sciences, students don’t just inherit these ideas, they help create them. With access to a faculty that ranks among the top fifteen nationally, our students gain insights and achieve successes beyond what they might otherwise envision. They learn to read intelligently, write eloquently, speak effectively, and think analytically and with imagination.
We are a great university. Yet the pace of change is accelerating, not abating, and tomorrow’s students will require even more of us. How will we meet this challenge?
With your help, we’ll continue to offer a first-rate education to bright students in Oregon regardless of their need; to nurture a campus rich with creativity, discovery, and community; and to pursue the ideas of our students, our faculty, and our state.
Campaign Oregon is crucial to our ability to build a more independent, entrepreneurial university. Within that context, it is critical that students and faculty members be given opportunities to fully investigate the links that create, sustain, and develop human culture.
A humanities education encourages students to explore the values and beliefs formed by work, religion, community life, and art—both from within their experience and from the perspective of other cultures.
Introspection, expression, and appreciation of diverse cultures generate ideas that transform lives and shape the future. We invite you to share in those ideas. Joe Stone, Dean
