Rick Ericson , Program Manager

Rick Ericson, newly-named Program Manager for the Annual Giving Program, came to the University of Oregon with one dream and ended up realizing two.

The North Bend, OR native arrived on campus in the fall of 2001 with his sites set on a degree in music.

Like most college students, he needed a job to help pay his way through college. While attending the UO job fair, he learned about the Annual Giving Program where UO students phone alumni, parents and friends to raise support for academic programs.

His employment with the Annual Giving Program provided Rick with a real sense of purpose and meant enough to him that he remained with the program throughout college.

Fast forward four years. Music degree in hand, Rick headed for Australia where he taught music theory. While he enjoyed his teaching tenure abroad, in the back of his mind, the UO Annual Giving Program and its purpose, was never far away.

As the program manager, instead of making calls, Rick proudly oversees the 40-plus students who phone UO alumni, parents and friends Sundays through Fridays, as well as the day-to-day management of the operations including hiring, training and supervising students.

Looking back, Rick says if it weren’t for scholarships and his job at the Annual Giving Program, he wouldn’t have been able to attend college. And, like those he once asked to help him and his peers, he is doing the same – making his gifts to the UO School of Music and Dance Dean’s Enrichment Fund.
