School of Music & Dance

Capital support
  • The MarAbel B. Frohnmayer Music Building expansion completed in 2008 added much-needed space for practice, teaching, and performance in the School of Music and Dance. The expansion added 29,000 square feet to the existing building, increasing its total size by about 50 percent. Features in the remodeled facility include new practice and rehearsal spaces, new classrooms and teaching studios. The remodeled building was named for the mother of UO President Emeritus Dave Frohnmayer, MarAbel B. Frohnmayer, a 1931 UO music graduate and longtime arts supporter.
  • $1,332,531 raised toward a goal of $1 million for equipment and instruments, including:
    • Two new Steinway Concert D grand pianos for Beall Hall.
    • Eight new Steinway grands for classrooms, performance, and rehearsal spaces.

Faculty support

  • $275,780 plus a $750,000 irrevocable bequest were raised toward a $500,000 goal for guest artists and scholars (primarily for Chamber Music@Beall series).
Student support
  • $2.74 million raised toward $1 million goal for scholarships.
  • Before the campaign, only $120,000 was awarded in scholarships every year with an average award of $1,200. Because of campaign gifts, the school now awards $300,000 a year with an average award of $3,000.
