Museum of Natural and Cultural History
Capital support
- In 2004, the University of Oregon Museum of Natural and Cultural History unveiled a $1 million set of exhibits that allows visitors to walk through 15,000 years of Northwest cultural history and 100 million years of geologic history: “Oregon-Where Past Is Present.” The museum was closed for thirteen months in order to complete the renovation, which was funded entirely by private gifts.
- Construction on the first phase of a $9.5 million renovation and expansion project began in 2008. The project—to be funded by federal, state, and private sources—will include a new collections wing and public galleria, a new exhibit hall, and a new archaeological research center.
Program support
- Campaign donors established several new endowments for collections, exhibits, and public programs.
- A large foundation gift is funding a project for visual documentation of the archaeological, ethnographic, and paleontological collections on the museum’s website.
