Knight Professor Predicts Future of Willamette River
Knight Professor David Hulse of the Department of Landscape Architecture specializes in the future. But you won’t find him gazing into a crystal ball. Instead, he and his students are out combing the river banks, wetlands, and urban zones of the Willamette River Basin, gathering data. Using an approach called “alternative futuring,” Hulse projects scenarios that could help government agencies and special- interest groups address issues such as urban sprawl, clean water, and air pollution.
“My students and I confront people today with their choices tomorrow,” says Hulse.
