The UO John Yeon Center for Architecture and the Landscape invites you to Last Sundays at Portland's only National Historic Landmark residence, the Aubrey Watzek House.

Tour begins promptly at 2:30 p.m., followed by the opportunity to draw, photograph or just enjoy the ambience of John Yeon's regional modernist masterpiece.

Completed in 1937, the Watzek House's bold yet timeless synthesis of many traditions of residential architecture into a refined new language became an important inspiration for the Northwest Style of Modernism. Published widely and exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art next to such icons as Le Corbusier's Villa Savoye and Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater, the house has influenced generations of architects.

No architect has influenced Oregon so broadly as John Yeon. A planner, conservationist, historic preservationist, art collector, and urban activist, as well as one of the state's most gifted architectural designers, Yeon was one of the progenitors of the Northwest Regional Style of architecture and stands among the region's most influential conservationists.The John Yeon Center is devoted to preserving Yeon's legacy by inspiring future acts of visionary architecture, urbanism, and conservation. A program of the School of Architecture and Allied Arts at the University of Oregon, the Center hosts events at two properties designed by Yeon: the 1937 Watzek House, Portland's only National Historic Landmark residence; and The Shire, a unique, 75-acre work of landscape design in the Columbia River Gorge.
