Committed to making a lasting difference
The Arnold Bennett Hall Legacy Society celebrates and honors the university's most optimistic and dedicated supporters—those who create opportunities for coming generations by making gifts in their estate plans.
Who is Arnold Bennett Hall?
Arnold Bennett Hall became UO president at the onset of the Great Depression. Ahead of his time in many ways, he laid the groundwork for the university’s rise as a premier public research university.
Through Hall’s personal efforts, UO supporters gave $1.5 million—roughly equivalent to $15 million today. As a result, he was able to hire notable professors in every department and invent the system of “lower division” courses for freshmen and sophomores that became the standard nationally.
